About project
The aim of the project „LIFE+ ForBioSensing PL Comprehensive monitoring of stand dynamics in Białowieża Forest supported with remote sensing techniques” is to develop and apply a monitoring method of a large forest area with the use of innovative techniques and data. Using the latest modes of forest ecosystem inventory and monitoring, will enable to obtain an unique spatial and tree stand dataset for Białowieża Forest.
The combination of remote sensing and photogrammetry data (such as LIDAR, satellite, etc.) with stand level ground-based measurements allows for a comprehensive approach to the dynamics of the forest stands (or homogeneous parts of this forest area) for this valuable biodiversity hotspot.
Identification of changes in the forest structure and tree species composition, that occur in Białowieża Forest stands, will help to identify the determinants of these processes, their dynamics and the implementation of relevant protection activities to the National Park and Forest District management.
The uniqueness of Bialowieża Forest means that it is the only such area in the European Union. Therefore, the project will cover only the Polish territory.
